If you’re anything like us, you hate microtransactions. They make the game less fun, promote infuriating pay-to-win models, and discredit building and honing your skills. Unfortunately, microtransactions are becoming more and more common in the mobile gaming industry.
However, there are ways to try to slow down their integration. Read on and find out how you can support your favorite game developer without purchasing in-game items through microtransactions.
1. Buy a paid mobile game
If you hate microtransactions, the easiest way to avoid them is to vote with your wallet, i.e. buy paid mobile games instead. The main reason microtransactions exist is that most people just don’t like paying upfront for mobile games the same way they do for console or PC games.
As a result, mobile game companies have no choice but to resort to other methods. It’s understandable that people don’t like to pay for mobile games because they’ve always been quite disappointing and don’t have such a good reputation in the gaming industry.
However, mobile games are slowly improving every year. As phones became more powerful and received better data connectivity, the number of mobile gamers grew globally, leading to increased investment from developers. In fact, several console titles are set to launch their own mobile games soon, and some of them, like Apex Legends, are already available.
On the Google Play Store, you can find paid mobile games by going to the Games section and tapping Top charts > Free top, and selecting Top paid from the menu. You can choose from different categories and also browse recently launched games.
2. Write a positive review
Having a good rating is very important for any game developer. It’s not uncommon for people to overlook a game with less than four stars. If you want to support your favorite game developer, consider leaving them positive reviews so their games can rank higher in app stores.
Follow the steps below to write a review for an app on the Google Play Store:
- Launch the Play Store app on your Android device and find the app you want to check out.
- Below Rate the apprate the game from five stars or press Write a review.
- Write the review based on your gaming experience and answer optional questions.
- Faucet Job top right to post your review.
3. Buy products from the game company
Another way to support your favorite game developer is to buy merchandise from their store. Many gaming companies sell goodies like t-shirts, mugs, hoodies, caps, posters, pins, plushies, beanies, action figures, decals, and more.
Purchasing these items is a great way to show you’re a fan of the game and love what the developers are doing. The only problem is that you may have to wait longer than expected for the items to arrive at your doorstep as international shipping can take a long time.
4. Watch In-Game Ads
Listen, we understand. Ads are annoying. Whether it’s on a YouTube video, a website, your social media feed, or a game, ads are always annoying. But they are also necessary for developers to earn income and offset game creation costs.
The more ad revenue they generate, the more money they can invest back into their game to fix bugs and create new content. Also, some games give you special rewards for watching in-game ads, so at least you get something in return for your troubles.
Support your favorite game developers
Creating mobile games is risky business, and given the culture of mobile gaming, it’s no wonder so many developers choose to monetize their games through microtransactions.
If you want to encourage developers not to rely on microtransactions, the best way to do that is to buy paid games and help promote the ones you like by giving them a 5-star rating.
