In 2013, Daniel Benmergui published a video showcasing alpha gameplay from his Storyteller puzzle game project. In 2018, he really committed to it, announce a partnership with Annapurna Interactive which meant, among other things, that “we * must * finish it”. And now, in 2021, we finally see how far we’ve come in a new trailer revealed today during the Annapurna online showcase.
In Storyteller, you have a setting, a selection of characters, and a title, and you have to put them together in a story that takes place on a short storyboard. You can tell your story however you see fit, recreating classics from the past or creating something entirely new, as long as it ends the way it should: like a tragedy, a love story or something. more specific.
The gameplay in the new trailer is essentially the same as in 2013, and even earlier – the very first Storyteller video on Benmergui’s channel dates back to 2012 – but the level of finish has obviously come a long way, and I I would expect the variety and flexibility of storytelling options to expand considerably as well. I think it sounds like a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to try it.
Unfortunately, despite the passage of time and the obvious progress that has been made, there is still no sign of the arrival promised by Benmergui. There is, however, a demo that you can try out which is now available at To smoke.
