(Pocket-lint) – EA has announced a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises to develop a new free-to-play The Lord of the Rings game for mobile.
The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will be a collectible RPG offering a “social-competitive experience”. It is developed by Capital Games, the studio behind Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes – a similar team-building RPG for iOS and Android.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games,” said Malachi Boyle, VP of Mobile RPG at EA.
“The team is filled with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans and every day they bring together their immense passion and talents to deliver an authentic experience for players.”
Not much about the game has been revealed yet, although Boyle did reveal that it will feature characters from all of JRR Tokien’s books: “The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations and stylized art dives players into the Middle-earth fantasy where they will go one-on-one with their favorite characters.”
A limited beta test will begin this summer in a currently unannounced region. There are no details on a full launch schedule yet.
Capital’s other game, Galaxy of Heroes, is now available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
