The fun of building without the mess
LEGO video games will always hold a special place in my heart – some of my fondest gaming memories are of me and my siblings playing through the Lego Star Wars games at our neighbour’s. Looking back, though, these licensed LEGO games kind of have me scratching my head, because even though the brand was on point, only a small amount of gameplay was allocated to the actual building, which is kind of all the appeal of the brand. Thanks to the new ad LEGO Brick Taleshowever, construction is about to reenter the enterprise construction-centric gaming canon in a whole new way.
LEGO Brick Tales is a physics-based construction puzzle game, and from the looks of its Future Games Show spring showcase trailer, it looks like a ton of fun. The game is developed by Clockstone Studio, which is best known for creating the indie hit bridge builder series. The trailer shows a series of scenarios where the player is asked to build an object (in LEGO, obviously) to help complete a task. The player is then given a set number of parts to build their item, and when construction is complete, the player can run a simulation to see if the item works as intended.
It’s a simple premise, at least from what we can tell so far, but sometimes the simplest concepts make for games that players will spend hundreds of hours in. After watching the trailer, some compared the mechanics of the game to that of Kerbel space programand that strikes me as a fairly fitting comparison.
LEGO Brick Tales will be released in 2022, and personally, I can’t wait to try this colorful, adorable, and probably challenging little puzzle game.
