Gamera Game publisher and developer Misty Mountain Studio offer Chinese mythology puzzle game The Rewinder on Nintendo Switch in Q4 2021, in addition to releasing it to PC via Steam. It has a new PC demo as part of Steam Next Fest, and the game hopes to charm gamers with its “unique ink-like pixel art style”. However, his most recent trailer is most likely to grab your attention with her pretty and melancholy original song by indie musician KALA. Listen to him.
The premise of the game is that Qi Yun is the last “Rewinder”, a person who can speak to spirits and even change the past by exploring the memories of others. Qi Yun is sent to investigate the disappearances and deaths in a small village where a deep mystery is brewing. The gameplay involves point-and-click puzzles, but the game builds on this foundation by allowing you to use “senses” to change the “intentions” of NPCs and rewrite history. And by its roots in Chinese folklore, the story of The Rewinder on Switch will involve such figures as the “Spirit Wardens, the Ox-Headed and Horse-Headed Guardians of the Afterlife and the Tudi Gong (Guardian of the Earth)”.
Video games are a fantastic way to experience other cultures without spending a thousand dollars on plane tickets (although this method has its advantages), and The Rewinder is set to bring a unique experience to Nintendo Switch and PC this fall. We will keep this on our radar.
